Product Page Optimization (PPO)
Apple’s built-in A/B test: run up to three variants of your icon, screenshots or preview video against your live product page with real store traffic.
Product Page Optimization lets you test up to three treatments against your current page, splitting live App Store traffic between them and reporting which converts better. It is free, it runs on real store visitors rather than a survey panel, and it is the only way to know whether a screenshot redesign actually worked.
You can test the app icon, the screenshot set, or the app preview video — one element type per test. Tests run for up to 90 days, and results are reported with confidence intervals, which matters: a 3% lift that has not separated from noise is not a lift.
The common mistake is changing everything at once. A new set with new captions, new order and a new background tells you the bundle won, not which part did — and the part that won is the thing you wanted to learn. Change one variable, ship the winner, then change the next.
The second mistake is testing on too little traffic. If your app gets a few hundred product page views a week, a test will take months to resolve, and guessing well from what comparable apps in your category already ship is a faster route.
