App preview video
A 15–30 second video that plays in the first position of your screenshot set, captured from the app itself.
An app preview is a short video — 15 to 30 seconds — that occupies the first slot of your screenshot set and autoplays, muted, in search results. You can ship up to three per localization, per device size.
Apple requires the footage to be captured from the app itself. Marketing animation, talking heads and screen mockups are rejected; what is allowed is device capture with light text and transitions over it. This is stricter than Google Play, and it is the rule most first submissions fail on.
Because it autoplays muted in the first position, the preview replaces your strongest screenshot rather than sitting alongside it. That is the real decision: a mediocre video is a downgrade, not an addition. If the app is visually simple, or the value is a state rather than a motion, a strong first screenshot usually wins.
Where previews earn their place is apps where the value is the interaction — drawing, editing, gameplay, anything where a still frame cannot show what using it feels like.
