ASO glossary
The App Store optimization vocabulary, defined without the vendor gloss — including what each
one costs you and where people get it wrong. Short entries, no filler.
- App Store keywords
- The 100-character comma-separated field in App Store Connect that tells Apple which search terms your app should be considered for.
- App Store ranking factors
- The signals Apple uses to order search results — chiefly text relevance, download velocity, engagement and ratings.
- Product Page Optimization (PPO)
- Apple’s built-in A/B test: run up to three variants of your icon, screenshots or preview video against your live product page with real store traffic.
- Custom Product Pages (CPP)
- Alternative versions of your product page — up to 35 of them — each with its own screenshots, promotional text and preview video, reachable by a unique URL.
- In-App Events
- Time-limited events — a tournament, a premiere, a seasonal challenge — that get their own card on your product page and can surface in App Store search and editorial.
- App Store localization
- Translating and adapting your store listing — name, subtitle, keywords, screenshots and description — per storefront.
- App preview video
- A 15–30 second video that plays in the first position of your screenshot set, captured from the app itself.
- Feature graphic
- A 1024 × 500 banner image required by Google Play — not the App Store, which has no equivalent.
